Tucked away in the extreme south-west corner of Tibet near Mount Kailash, Lake Manasarovar (Tibetan: Mapham yum-tso; 4560m) is one of the country's most sacred and beautiful lakes. Just 20km from Kailash across the Barkha plain, Manasarovar can be circumambulated in four or five days. Five of the original eight monasteries have been partially rebuilt.
